I am using your example strategy to lay my selections but I want the bot only to fire if the place price is within a range. Is this possible?

Have you tried using "Selection conditions->Racing –Runner at win/place market favourite/price rule" rule to check runner price at place market? Please see manual for details, pages 61-62:
