What would cause a $10 lay bet to lapse in real mode when the settings are:

Time to bet: "Start placing bets 10s before in play, keep in play 1s"
Price rules: "Initial bet is min, recorded lay. Price is worsen by 2 ticks."
Bet persistence: "Take SP"
First in the queue: "Updates bets by 1 tick. Min price is $1.01, max price is $1000. Ticks from available price 2."

Shouldn't it take the SP if everything else fails?

You are placing Lay bets at minimum recorded price, so your bet is Unmatched and it gets Lapsed status because Betfair is unable to match it and market goes in play. Also Betfair does not guarantee to match all unmatched bets when "Take SP" is used.

Also if you wish to take SP then you should turn off option to keep betting during in play for 1s, as you cannot use Take SP during in play.

Change it to use "currently available price" and then your bet should get matched instantly.
