Can anyone pls explain where the going is taken from? Is it the official going at the start of the day, the going when the tip is imported, or when the bet is placed?

Does it update throughout the day as the official going changes?

If I have the options Soft and Heavy ticked, any reason it would not work at the Curragh today when the description on Betfair is Soft (Soft To Heavy in Places)?

A similar strategy is working fine at Yarmouth where the description is Heavy (Soft in places) fwiw.

Going information is updated at 5AM and 11AM by using information available on internet. It is not updated during the day after 11AM.

You should check main MARKETS grid view to see which information bot has for each race.

Got it thanks. Any reason the Irish meetings do not have a going allocated to them?

There is no specific reason for Irish meetings not to have that information.
